Dear Good Shepherd,

As the situation evolves and we continue to learn of more opportunities to support our neighbors, we will share both via email and on the News Page of our website. We will continue to have a collection in the Narthex at Good Shepherd. Thank you to those who have already delivered supplies. (Please let Pastor Josh or our office staff know if you are heading down to help and can take a load of supplies. This will be an ongoing effort)

There are several key ways YOU can help make a difference right now.

  • Financial Donation – Providing funds for work on the ground is needed (see below)
  • In-Kind Donations
  • Volunteer – Cleanup efforts and help serving meals, distributing supplies, etc.

Highlights:

  1. United Way's Volunteer Hub – Volunteers needed for clean up, donating/preparing food, supplies
  2. St. Philip’s Lutheran Church – Volunteers to help sort/prep supplies, donations
  3. LifeWise STL – See message and opportunities to support families in need through LifeWise.
  4. Action STL – This was also recommended as an effective way to donate and/or volunteer.
  5. Donate - Financial contributions are a HUGE help in early response.

United Way Volunteer Center

One of our new members is the Director for the Volunteer Center at the United Way of Greater St. Louis. Their site serves as a comprehensive hub for volunteering in the STL area in times of disaster and is a fantastic place to start if you want to find ways to support recovery efforts.

St. Philip’s Lutheran Church

They are collecting supplies and organizing them to be distributed throughout the community. We need:

  • Financial Donation to support their work
  • In-Kind donations (can drop off at Good Shepherd)

LifeWise STL

This is a message from Scott Walker, the director of LifeWise STL:

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by last week's devasting storm. At LifeWise StL, we're doing all we can to support our community in this time of need - and we invite you to join us.

In the wake of the storm, we quickly opened our gym as an emergency supply facility to support individuals and families impacted by the disaster. With one of the main emergency shelters located just across the street at the 12th & Park Recreation Center, our proximity has allowed us to be a key partner in making critical supplies available.

So far, more than 35 LifeWise participant families have reached out for assistance—a number we anticipate will continue to grow. Some have minor damage, while others unfortunately have lost everything. Our team is responding in real-time to emerging needs. For example, when we learned that a group of nursing home residents had been evacuated and hadn't had access to clean clothes for days, we were able to deliver full sets of clothing in the correct sizes. It’s just one example of how we’re working to meet specific needs with dignity and care.

Our Senior Programming Staff is doing wellness checks with all of our senior participants and, with the help of our adult programming staff, are delivering meals to those without electricity.

We’re also sharing our translation services with partners across the city and coordinating the distribution of pallets of donated goods to both individuals and agencies in need.

We welcome your partnership in helping to meet the need. At this time, we can use gift cards for groceries and adult-sized new socks and new underwear. You can drop them off at our facility M-F between 7am and 6:30pm.

We can also use financial donations to allow us to meet the specific needs of families and individuals affected by the storm.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to LifeWise StL and the city of St. Louis.

With gratitude,

Action STL

Action STL has been recommended to me by several folks as an effective way to support recovery efforts. They have a very helpful website where you can find ways to help.
