Extra devotional celebrating EARTH DAY

THE EARTH… ENTRUSTED, NOT OWNED

Right from the start, the Earth isn’t ours to keep. It’s entrusted to us, to work, protect, and care for, not to conquer or abuse. Genesis 2:15 shows us this: stewardship matters.

The Earth is alive and generous. Our roots go deep, we come from the soil, we rely on it, and eventually return to it. Genesis 2:7 gets at this bond. In countless cultures, words like “mother” capture the way Earth nourishes life.

The Earth isn’t something you use up and toss aside. It has its own life and responds to what happens to it. Genesis 1:31 declares its goodness. Seeds crack open, roots push through, and even in hardship, Earth moves forward, restoring itself.

The rhythms are always there: rest, renewal, rising again. Psalms 19:1 and Romans 8:22 speak of a creation that’s vibrant, expressive, never silent.

Every step, every breath, we lean on the Earth for all of it. Psalms 24:1 tells us plainly: the Earth isn’t ours to possess. It’s ours to care for.

We come from dust, we live on what grows from the ground, and we leave traces behind. Earth Day calls us to remember, honor, and nurture the gift beneath our feet, a steady, quiet presence that never stops giving.
