The Babors and Building Block Preschool
When the pandemic closed their daughter’s day care in 2020, Lesley and Andrew Babor knew they wanted to find a place where their oldest daughter Alice could be with other children before she started Kindergarten. A cousin suggested Building Blocks Preschool at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. After meeting director Kathy Rebholz, Lesley and Andrew immediately felt comfortable knowing they had found the right place.
The Babor family will begin their 7th and final year with Building Blocks Preschool this fall when their youngest daughter enters pre-K, and they are already sad about facing the end of their time there. Special programs such as the Halloween party and parade, Christmas program and year end completion ceremony have become much loved family memories they have experienced with each of their daughters.
Not only is Building Blocks a place where the girls go to school, but it is also where the Babors have found community. “I think what we have cherished the most about Building Blocks are the families and teachers we have met and grown to love over the years” Because the classroom teachers have remained constant throughout their Building Blocks experience their older daughters Alice and Emily continue to happily greet their teachers each morning when they ride along to drop Sarah off for her class on their way to school.
Having grown up with different faith backgrounds, Lesley and Andrew were not sure how to present the stories of the church to their family. “We really love Building Blocks’ approach to teaching the kids the true meaning of holidays like Christmas and Easter,” Lesley shares. “The stories and lessons are always provided in a way that the girls can understand making it easy to reinforce at home.”
The Babors also sent the girls to Vacation Bible School at Good Shepherd during the summer, in a space where the girls already felt comfortable. When they began to consider a church home, Good Shepherd was a logical first choice. Little Sarah often clings to her mama, but when Pastor Amy called children forward for the children’s message, Sarah walked forward without hesitation to listen to her friend Pastor Amy share another story from God’s Word!
Thanks to your continued generosity, Good Shepherd’s Children and Family programs are a vital part of our community, connecting families not only to our preschool program, but also to our summer camps and worship services.
