Imagine waking up tomorrow and every electronic device you own is gone. No phone. No internet. Goodbye to Bible app, google search, no more scrolling through social media looking for verses.
Now, take it a step further. What if every copy of Bible, and every book about Scripture, just vanished overnight? And you are left with what’s already inside you.
Would you have enough of God’s Word tucked away in your heart to get you through tough times, fear, sickness, grief, anxiety, loneliness, temptation, loss? When your faith is shaken, can you bring truth to mind? Can you speak hope to someone who’s falling apart? Lead someone toward peace, toward salvation?
This isn’t about feeling guilty. It’s about being ready.
Because Scripture was never meant to sit on a shelf, hide on a screen, or collect dust on a page. Or to read on a screen during service. It’s meant to take root in us.
Jesus consistently quoted Scripture throughout His ministry. He taught from the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms because the Word already lived within Him. Even on the cross, His words echoed Scripture.
The Bible presents knowing Scripture as more than memorization. It is about allowing God’s Word to shape how we think, endure, discern, love, resist temptation, comfort others, and remain anchored when life becomes difficult.
That tells you something: What fills your heart when life is calm is what will spill out when life hurts.
So maybe the real question isn’t, “Do I read the Bible?”
Maybe it’s, “Has God’s Word become so much a part of me that it will carry me if everything else falls away?”
Psalm 119:11—“I have hidden Your word in my heart…” (Scripture becomes strength stored within us.)
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 — God’s Word should live in our hearts and be passed on daily.
Joshua 1:8 — Meditating on God’s Word brings wisdom and direction.
Matthew 4:1–11 — Jesus used Scripture to resist temptation.
Luke 2:46–47 — Even as a child, Jesus deeply understood Scripture.
Timothy 3:16–17 — Scripture teaches, corrects, and equips believers.
Colossians 3:16 — God’s Word is meant to dwell richly within us.
Question…
How many verses do you learn a week?
How many minutes, hours you spend in the word?
Are you able to minister truth to those hurting? To yourself?
Question yourself… Where do I spend most of my time… in-front of the TV, phone screen, social media or do I spend more time with God in the word?
The big question is… What’s in your heart?
