Today we begin the 31 days journey devotion of the women of the Bible.
EVE — THE BEGINNING OF HER STORY
Long before kingdoms, prophets, queens, mothers, warriors, widows, or witnesses ever graced the pages of Scripture, there was Eve.
Her story doesn’t begin in failure. It starts with intention, God’s own purpose.
Genesis 2:18 puts it like this: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
That Hebrew word for “helper” is (ezer) and there’s power packed into it. Ezer never points to someone lesser, secondary, or weak. In fact, the Bible uses this same word to talk about God as a strong helper, a rescuer, and a source of strength.
Eve wasn’t an afterthought. God created her as strength. As a companion. As the life-bearer. Someone designed to stand beside, not below.
Then Genesis 3:20 says, “The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.”
Her name? It means “life.”
Sure, Eve’s story holds the pain and weight of human choice. But it’s so much more. Hers is the first chapter in humanity’s unfolding story of grace. Even after brokenness found its way in, God’s story kept moving. Through woman, life kept going. Through woman, generations came. Redemption would one day step into the world through her line.
Eve shows us something important: the beginning of a story can hold beauty, struggle, wisdom, and consequence all together, but God keeps writing.
So don’t forget this: You don’t carry only the weight of humanity’s fall. You’re part of where life began.
Reflection:
Where has God called you to carry life, wisdom, and strength?
Could the start of your story hold more purpose than you’ve seen before?
Genesis 1:27 - “So God created humankind in His own image…”
From the very first moments, woman was present. Her story mattered then, and still does now.
